With Naxxramas now open, our recruiting needs are changing, in fact, the whole guild is changing. There is a lot of raiding to be done, and not a whole lot of time to do it. We need people that can help us out at every step, be it gearing yourself up in BWL, putting in a long night pushing for a full AQ clear, or dealing with new encounters in Naxx. We need a very select group of people, and the best way to find out if someone is going to make the cut is to give them a try.
We are tired of being second best. We are tired of beating encounters only after everyone is familiar with the strategy. And we are tired of stupid mistakes. This guild is changing, and the changes are not going to benefit every individual, but they will further the goals of the guild, and make the game more enjoyable to those that wish to play at this level.
With that, the following should help you decide whether this guild is right for you.
A few tips: App'ing to 8 other guilds in addition to us doesnt exactly show you are dedicated to joining. App'ing to us, then having to withdraw it a day later because you didn't know our raiding schedule is just stupid, do a little research first. Also, dont close your app 6 hours after posting it because no one responded. In fact, even if you do get a response, it is probably a guild member just trolling. If an officer or Zanden replies, do as instructed/answer the question(s).
Raiding Schedule (recently revised)
End-game PvE is all about raiding at the moment. There is no way to be a successful high-end guild without running frequent 40-man raids, and doing all the content available to us. With the recent addition of Naxxramas to the to-do list, we have a lot of raiding to be done, and not a whole lot of time. This means we need to maximize the time available and we cannot tolerate slow downs for any reason. Many people want to play this game as a relaxing social gathering, and if possible kill a few bosses if it doesnt interupt the socializing. An equally many people want to play this game to kill bosses, and take pride in learning encounters without assistance from people that have killed them before. The goal of this guild is cater to those with the second mindset.
If you want to socalize and raid when most convienent for you, find another guild. This guild is determined to make progress in the content Blizzard has provided us, and individual sacrifices have to be made in order for that to happen at the necessary pace.
Raids do not need to be scheduled, nor do they need to be announced prior to invites going out. Static raids (instances) are most often planned ahead, but situations can change. Outdoor raid bosses do not care if we are ready and waiting, they spawn without regard. Most often this is in the morning, and it becomes difficult for us to kill them on a regular basis, but if they spawn when we have a sufficient number of people on, we will kill them. Everyone online (unless you are on your final weeks of the Rank 14 grind) is expected to get in the raid in a timely fashion, and get to the pull spot as quikcly as possible. Summons may not be available, and speed is of the essence, so dont waste everyone elses time.
Static raids are most often scheduled for 7pm server time. This is to be most convienent with the most number of people. Everyone is expected to be online before 7pm server. Failure to do so may result in not getting a raid spot, and frequently doing so with no excuse may result in removal from the guild. We have had trouble with people being late in the past, and we will not tolerate it now. If you cannot make raids on a regular basis, please do not apply.
Raids end when they are called by an officer. This may be midnight, this may be 4am. It all depends on how much progress we have made, and the overall performance of the raid. The vast majority of the raid is expected to remain the entire duration of the raid, if you cannot, a few steps must be taken:
1) Inform an officer that you are going to have to leave within the next 30-45 minutes. Unless it is a real emergency, we expect sufficent warning that you are leaving
2) Use your class channels to find a replacement for you. If you cannot find a replacement of your same class, find one of a class that does a similar job as yours (you're a mage, and cannot find a mage replacement, but can find a warlock, that is fine)
3) When it is time for you to leave, if you intend to come back before the raid will be over, run your way out of the instance, and log out there. If you willnot be back until after the raid is over, hearth or portal out of the instance. Do not simply go AFK in the instance, waiting for your character to auto-logout.
If you cannot stay the entire duration of a raid on a regular basis, do not apply. We have enough people that need to be replaced at 10pm PST, we dont need anymore.
Loot:
www.warfrontguild.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=loot&action=display&thread=1127643768
Any questions about particular loot decisions should be brought up with officers in private. We strive for fair loot distribution, without the hastles and negative effects of DKP. If you think we made the wrong decision about something, tell us, but making a scene in vent or guild chat is not necessary.
Raiding:
Raids are lead by the officers, and assistance from whoever is called upon. So if you are a hunter, you may be told to start pulls, whether you have done it before or not. If you are a healer, you may be asked to make healing assignments, and if you are DPS, you may be called upon to be Main Assist. Our primary form of communication is Ventrillo. If you cannot use Vent because you are on a Macintosh, you really should consider finding access to a PC. We have no interest in changing the Vent codec, and we require everyone be in Vent. Having a mic, and using it is a huge positive, unless you are annoying and dont know when to shut up.
One of the most important things in raiding is the ability of individuals to think for themselves. Way back when people were first learning MC, many people got the idea that raiding was mindless, and the more mindless the people, the better the raid was. As more and more advanced content is coming out, we see that is most definately the wrong strategy. People need to be able to think for themselves, and make decisions quickly in a dynamic encounter. We cannot have people that will sit around doing nothing until an assignment of who they are supposed to heal, and which mob they are to DPS is posted. Everyone needs to be healed, and with the new raid marking system, everyone should know which mob to DPS first.
Assisting is vital. If you do not have CTRA, and do not have MT target boxes, then you need to be paying close attention to Vent to hear which mob is to be focus fired when. We have had problems with assisting in the past. This will not be tolerated. Frequently failing to assist will result in being removed from the raid.
Raiding is expensive, and everyone needs to carry their own burden. Learning new content may be upwards of 100g a week in repairs. If you cannot aford this, or are unwilling to farm to support yourself, do not apply.
Guild:
The average age of people in the guild is somewhere in the low-to-mid 20's, most of us are male. If you are sensitive to foul language of any type, this is not the guild for you. If you are thin-skinned, and cannot take being insulted, or cannot accept the harsh criticism that comes with making very minor mistakes, this is not the guild for you.
If you think we're the guild for you based on that criteria, it's probably time to put in an app. Two important suggestions:
-these forums allow for a lot of coding, use it (bolding, italicizing, underlining, striking, images, links, tables, subscripts and superscripts)
-spelling and grammar is important (cant spell "rogue," or find a use for "you're?" then head to Dictionary.com before app'ing)
Simple, right? Aparently not, so I am going to make a sample app for you. This one is me, you might want to substitute your own answers in.
Thread Name: Mbobo - 60 Rogue
-this is important, make sure your name, lvl, and class are in the thread title. No one wants to search around your app looking for your name
1) What other guilds have you been in?
Officer of <Resolution>. Guild fell apart at the beginning of December.
-this is pretty basic stuff. We dont have a "why did you leave your last guild" question, so put that information here. If you ninja'd your guilds first Ragnaros, and got gkicked, we are going to know, so dont lie
2) How often do you play and what is your current /played time? How long have you been 60?
My /played is 132 days, with 110 @ lvl 60. I play at least 10 hours every weekday, and 12 or more on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
-if you are at work, and dont know your /played time, go home and check it before app'ing. Be honest about how much you play everyday.
3) What spec are you? Would you be willing to change your spec if I asked you to?
20/31 sword, and I would be willing to change for the guild if necessary.
-spec = x/y/z not "feral" or "shadow," providing your weapon spec is a plus. Having your talent build in the link you provide for question 4 is nice. Also, you had best be willing to change for the guild, or dont expect an invite. This includes druids.
4) How does your gear rate? (WE NEED PEOPLE WITH AT LEAST FULL T2 AND SOME AQ GEAR, MC/ZG/AQ20 SHIT DOESN"T CUT IT)(Make a profile on ctprofiles.net and post a link here.)
100% epix. 8/8 NS, 8/8 BF. 2/5 DD, Doomhide Gauntlets, Boots of the Shadow Flame, Puissant Cape, Ancient Qiraji Ripper, Chromatically Tempered Sword.
wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?670625
-list a few nice items, but just make sure you have a link to either a CTProfiles or and Allakhazam profile. personally I like Alla cuz you cant fib it quite so easily, and it's easy to update, but that's just me. Also, try to make sure the link works
4b) Is your gear enchanted with the best possible enchants in their particular slots?
Yes
-Yes, or do not apply. Get your enchants before applying
5) What do you think you bring to the guild?
-this can be a tough question if no one knows you, so think of a good answer
6) Do you enjoy PvP?
-if No, consider looking for another guild. Although we have recently put more time into PvE than PvP, we still intend to remain a "PvP/PvE" guild, not become a "PvE-only" guild. If you are not rank 6, consider getting that before app'ing
7) Why do you want to join War Front?
-dont say "cuz i want an asscandi" or "cuz my guild cant kill cthun"
8) Do you have Ventrilo and a Microphone?(This is mandatory for MC and other raids, also helps in pvp)
Yes I have Vent and a mic, and I do occasionally use it.
-if No, consider looking for a new guild. If you are on a Mac, and cant use Vent, try to find a PC to use for raids
9) Are you the first owner of your account or did you buy it? Did you level your character to its current level yourself?
Yes, I am the first owner of the account, and except for a couple lvls in the 30's that my brother did, I lvl'd on my own.
-DO NOT LIE!! we will know if you purchased a character on EBay, because there is always someone that knew the guy before he sold. If you did purchase/trade for your character, list what your previous character was, and what raiding/PvP experience you have. Also, please list your previous characters name and server
10) Do you know any current members that could give you a referral? How do you know them?
-this is extremely important, and almost always mis-used. Do not list every single person that you know that is, or was, in War Front. You need to speak with a couple people that you know, consult with them about whether they are willing to vouch for you, then list them. I cannot stress this enough, this is not the section where you say you did a ZF run with so-and-so a couple months ago. You NEED to talk to people, and ask them if they will vouch for you. If you do not know anybody in WF, you should try to get to know a few of us before app'ing. We frequently have a spot open for a ZG or AQ20 run, try to get in one of those, and get to know some people
11) Contact Info (Other Alts, etc)
In-Game: Mbobo or Ahlaa
Email:
WF Forums: Mbobo
Vent: Mbobo
-give as much contact info as possible. if we want to recruit you, we dont really want to wait for 3 days for you to log on. give an email or a vent that we can reach at
12) Are you originally from Frostmane or Frostwolf? (If Frostwolf what was your character's name over there before the transfer.)
Frostmane native
13) How old are you, and what time zone are you in?
19, Eastern Time Zone (server +1)
-age doesnt really matter, unless you are like 13, when we are going to really have to question if you can devote enough time to the game. Time zone is important, so we can get an idea if you should be able to make most raids. Combine the two, and we should be able to tell if you are going to be ninja logging half way through the raid because your mom told you to go to bed.
14) Are you Male or Female? (Doesn't matter we're just curious.)
Male
Finally, Tell us a little about yourself. (Make it good)
Student at UMASS Amherst, Biology Major....
-RL info. Telling us that you are a doctor, and occasionally get called into the ER at random times is helpful. As is that you go to college and have no life. Also, if you need to explain some situation about the game, make a new paragraph and do so. Like that you ninja'd an Ony PuG 6 months ago, but have since found God and that youre now on the path to righteousness or something. Anything, so it doenst pop up during a random vent conversion.
Now that you know what a good app looks like, you have no excuse to make a shitty one.
